A temporary exhibition of Czech film puppets at the Strahov monastery is open from 36.11 till 30.1.2010 (exhibition is extended). If you are interested in the history of Czech animation, this is best opportunity in many years to see puppets and decorations from the best films made in the Jiri Trnka studio (and some others) over the past 40 years.

Festival ONE FLEW OVER THE PUPPETEER'S NEST 2009

19th year of the annual showcase of puppet theatres will take place in Prague from 6.11. to 8.11.2009. Festival is organized by the Czech UNIMA centre and the Society for the publishing of Loutkář Magazine in cooperation with Minor Theatre.

Films made by students now on YouTube

You can see two films made during our 2009 workshops - Bobby goes to Zlaty Milos and The Magic Hat. These innovative, experimental films were made in the Hafan Film Studio , where the award winning Czech animated film Fimfarum was made. Student worked on these films from start to finish: creating the story board, costumes, animating, editing and sound.

We ran a puppet making workshop for children at the Bornholm festival, and we performed our show Penguins (Hot Hot Hot).

Our latest workshop, Puppet for animation, has finished!

We succesfully finished the workshop. Now we have some more puppet-creating-experts in world. With hepl of experts students managed to make short film, which will be deposited on Youtube soon.

Puppets by former student Sanae

Sanae Yasunaga from Japan made a beautiful puppet while she studied in our puppet making workshop in the Summer 2008... and since then, she has been working hard in Japan. Sanae has made about 20 marionettes since our workshop! Some photos are here.

Our latest workshop, Puppet for animation, has started!

We succesfully kicked off the workshop in the magical HAfan film studio. Students spent the weekend shooting 60 seconds of animation with puppets. Now we have presentations by leading professionals working in animation and designing puppets.

Puppet Kafka

Drama of Works, a New York theatre company, is performing Puppet Kafka (May 10), a new show with puppets made by Puppets in Prague director Mirek Trejtnar. Puppet Kafka is about the work, life and peculiar perspectives of Franz Kafka. www.dramaofworks.com
