About the event

Meet puppeteers from around the world! 

Join us for an informal evening where we'll talk about traditional puppetry and also where the field is going. 

The event is PAY AS YOU CAN (recommended payment: 10 Euros / 5 Euros students).

Several puppet artists will make short presentations about their work:

BARA HUBENA (Czech Republic) - a leading puppet designer whose work is heavily influenced by the strong toy making tradition. Bara is the lead designer for the LokVar Puppet Company, and she visits festivals around Europe with her "Wooden Workshop" where children can discover the art of puppetry. 

CHESLEY CANNON (USA) - a puppet maker and designer for the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. Chesley has also worked on puppetry and animation for television productoins

ANDREA BEAR (USA) - a costume and puppet designer who teaches at the Wabash College in Indiana. 

JAKUB ŠULIK and JOHANA BARTOVÁ (Czech Republic)- founders of the Fras Puppet Company, which has won awards for their innovate approach to puppetry and design. Both are finishing their MAs at the Alternative and Puppet Department of the Prague Theatre Academy (DAMU).

SOTA SAKUMA (Japan/Czech Republic)  - a puppet maker from Japan reknowned for his delicately carved, small marionettes. He studied textile arts at the Tokyo Art and Design University and then came to Prague, where he earned an MFA in puppet design at the Prague Theatre Academy (DAMU). He has frequent exhibitions in Europe and Japan.

MIREK TREJTNAR (Czech Republic) - founder of Puppets in Prague, 

Scene designer DAVID ROBERTS (Canada) will say a few words about his 2005 collaboration with Czech director Julek Neumann, and CLEO APPLETON will talk about her collection of Burmese puppets.

Plus we will show puppet films created by VALERIE MEISS (USA) and CLAUDINE RIVEST (Canada).
