About the event
Be part of an exclusive tour to Plzen, a city with a long puppet history. It is the birthplace of puppet animation legend Jiri Trnka and the home town of Josef Skupa who invented the iconic Czech marionette duo Spejbl and Hurvinek. It is now home of the award-winning Alfa Theatre and an excellent puppet museum located on the main square of Plzen.
We will start out at the Alfa Puppet Theatre and see a puppet version of Odysseus. Then the artstic staff of the theatre will take us on an exclusive backstage tour where we'll see the workshops where puppets are made and see where "retired"puppets from old shows are stored. Then we'll visit the Plzen Puppet Museum, a gorgeous Renaissance building which houses a stunning collection of historic and contemporary puppets. Finally we'll visit the puppet studio of Vladimir Sosna, a carver and designer who has worked for Alfa for many years and who runs his own workshops.
Leah Gaffen from Puppets in Prague will lead the excursion, which is limited to 10 people. We will travel by train. The price covers theatre tickets, train tickets, and museum tickets. It does not include food or local transportation in Plzen.
