About the Workshop

Want to create an original, complete show with a beautiful, practical wooden stage and carved marionettes? Get inspired by the 1920s Czech traditions of family puppet theatres and develop your own original show with the guidance of professional puppeteer. At the end you will have a show ready for performances! THE WORKSHOP HAS 2 PARTS: PART 1. BUILDING - SEPTEMBER - JANUARY : Make a puppet theatre based on historic Czech family theatres and three 25-cm wooden marionettes. 9 classes. PART 2: CREATE SHOW - JANUARY - MAY: Develop a story with a professional puppeteer. 7 sessions SCHEDULE DATES + TIMES (Central European Time, 6 hours ahead of EST) Part 1, BUILDING: Meet every session from 5-6:30 pm CET Sept 5, Sept 19, Oct 3, Oct 17, 31, Nov 14, Dec 5, Dec 12, Jan 16, Jan 23 Led by Mirek Trejtnar, head of Puppets in Prague Part 2, MAKING SHOW: Sept 19, Oct 3, Feb 6, 20, Mar 13, Apr 4, 11, 24 Most sessions, we will meet from 5-6:30 pm Prague time. On Feb 21, March 14, April 4 students will sign up for individual rehearsals, times TBA. Led by Dora Bouzkova, award-winning puppeteer PUPPET KIT: (optional) Before the workshop starts, you can order pre-cut wooden blocks without joints + 3 controllers which we will send you. Price does NOT include shipping or wood for theatre. TOOLS AND MATERIALS You will need a collection of 3-5 chisels/carving tools and other basic tools. We will send you a list upon receipt of your application. You can also write us in advance with questions. FOR WHOM IS THE WORKSHOP INTENDED? WORKSHOP FEE Tuition: 660 Euros Puppet Kit (optional): 150 Euros (includes wooden blocks for 3 puppets sized 25 cm + controllers. Does NOT including shipping cost) Payment to be made upon acceptance to the workshop. CANCELATION POLICY The fee is nonrefundable. If you cancel a more than 1 month before the start of the workshop, you can transfer the fee to another PIP workshop ; you will be charged a 200 Euro fee and you will be charged for the price of the new workshop if the price changes. If for any reason PIP needs to cancel the course, you will get a full refund minus the bank transfer fees.
