Miniature Theatre: 4-month course

About the Workshop

Learn the Czech tradition of making exquisite toy puppet theatres, which dates back to the 1920s. At our online workshop you will work with professional designers, carvers and puppeteers, and: - Develop a story for an original puppet show - Carve 3 small marionettes (option to purchase puppet kit) - Make a wooden toy theatre By June, you will have everything for your puppet performance! SCHEDULE We will meet every other week on Zoom, so you have time to complete tasks between sessions. There are a total of 9 sessions (each session will be 2 hours) which meet from 5-7 p.m. Central European Time (11a.m.-1 p.m. EST). There will be regular individual and group consultations, so you can learn from our expert team and also meet students from around the world. All sessions will be recorded. Sessions: Feb 25, Mar 17, Mar 24, Apr 7, Apr 21, May 5, May 19, June 2, June 16 PUPPET KIT: (optional) Before the workshop starts, you can send us 3 puppet designs. We will pre-cut wooden blocks on a bandsaw that are ready for carving and send them to you by the start of the workshop. MORE ABOUT WORKSHOP It is divided into three parts. 1. MARIONETTES: carve, assemble, make controllers for 25-cm marionettes. If you do not get a puppet kit, you should have wooden blocks prepared before the workshop begins. 2. TOY THEATRE: Build an individually designed toy theatre stage. The construction is based on our unique design and collapses down into a wooden box. 3. DRAMATURGY: Develop a story with a professional puppeteer. TOOLS AND MATERIALS You will need a collection of 3-5 chisels and other basic tools. We will send you a list upon receipt of your application. You can also write us in advance with questions. FOR WHOM IS THE WORKSHOP INTENDED? WORKSHOP FEE Tuition: 450 Euros Puppet Kit (optional): 200 Euros (not including postage) TOTAL: 650 Euros Payment to be made upon acceptance to the workshop. CANCELATION POLICY The fee is nonrefundable. If you cancel a more than 1 month before the start of the workshop, you can transfer the fee to another PIP workshop ; you will be charged a 200 Euro fee and you will be charged for the price of the new workshop if the price changes. If for any reason PIP needs to cancel the course, you will get a full refund minus the bank transfer fees.
